About Us

Alpaca Mountain Trade Company began in April 2001 when Carl Larsson and Dennis Birdsall, both recent graduates of the University of Denver, wanted to pursue their entrepreneurial spirits through offering a unique product that they believed in. After having been introduced to the product and having the vision to import this Peruvian treasure on separate South American excursions, Dennis and Carl agreed on alpaca as "the product." Controlling their own destiny, the two long-time friends could run an ethical business based on their respect for their customers as well as their suppliers.

Alpaca Mountain Trade Company strives to provide the finest quality hand crafted alpaca products for its customers. Our purchasers hand select the products from high in the Andes Mountains of Peru where Incan ancestors praised alpaca as "The Fiber of The Gods." We pride ourselves on establishing a mutually respectful relationship between our company and its employees, customers, and business partners.

Unlike our competitors whose products are machine made, mass- produced, and usually a mixture of alpaca with some other fiber, Alpaca Mountain Trade Company has each garment and rug hand made to our strict specifications from 100% alpaca. Our fiber comes from the best fiber producer in Peru that has been in business for over 100 years. Our handmade garments come from a family of four brothers born with the skill of alpaca knitting through generations of ancestors. Our rugs come from an artisan guild whose stitching surpasses that of a machine and whose fleece feels cloud-like. Our designer, a recent graduate from Lima's premier fashion school, adds modern colors, styles, and designs to the hand made production.
